Before people start hurting themselves in commending the Startlegram for their recent reports and editorial that all seem to be of benenfit to the people on Carter Ave. and the whole community, please keep in mind that the newspaper has been doing a questionable job of reporting the whole story surrounding the saga and epic fight on Carter Ave., including only just recently reporting what TxDOT officials ACTUALLY SAID rather than just take as gospel what CHK, city staff, and councilwoman said. The editorial was no profile of courage in its position. Furthermore, it came OVER A YEAR TOO LATE. The Startlegram can and should do much better.
Mike Lee needs to report on the role of the city in the targeting of these por Carter Ave. residents and taxpayers. He should especially focus on the parcels of City-owned properties located at the western end of the proposed route. We also need answers about when and how two lieces of City-owned properties on Carter Ave. were transferred to CHK last November, quietly and not posted on TAD records until a few months ago. What else is the public not being told? Secrets and the public do not go together--by definition and by law.
Have you been appalled by what you see on the "news" happening in the communities? Ever been disturbed by the lack of coverage or the lack of facts shared by the media? Who knows more about what is going on in your community? A reporter with a deadline or informed citizens? Have you ever attended a city meeting? Are you concerned with your current leadership? Ever written a Letter to the Editor that was edited beyond recognition? Or not printed at all? Let us know what's going on in your cities, help to educate your neighbors. The things taking place now are regional and affect all of us. Exercise your right to be informed!
