Before we strain our muscles patting the S-T and their reporters and editorial writers, remember their tacit support (i.e. selective reporting and outright silence) for many egregious actions--AND refusal to take proper actions-- on the part of the City and the gas drilling industry, esp. regarding the Alamo-esque Carter Ave.gas pipeline battle and the Rainbow Lounge Beat-down. Mr. Kennedy seems to have discovered his "voice" regarding governmental misbehavior ONLY AFTER HE HIMSELF WAS INCONVENIENCED--- not because he was responding to and expressing the frustrations by citizens. In fact, he is mainly using the public's rights as a backdrop to expressing his own personal unhappiness with how he was treated at that press conference, with the subtle implication that he has special status and privilege due to his job and his employer's status in the city and thus should not have been treated like the common citizen. If it's any comfort, Mr. Kennedy can just remind himself that the violation of people's civil rights like he experienced occur to numerous taxpayers on a regular basis. It ain't pleasant living in the New Fort Worth, Mr. Kennedy. Well, at least for the commoners who risk getting tazed, harassed, and even get their hard-earned private property taken for someone else's financial and political gains. Sorry it these points are inconvenient to hear. But it's the truth "on the ground"-- as you reporters like to say.
Have you been appalled by what you see on the "news" happening in the communities? Ever been disturbed by the lack of coverage or the lack of facts shared by the media? Who knows more about what is going on in your community? A reporter with a deadline or informed citizens? Have you ever attended a city meeting? Are you concerned with your current leadership? Ever written a Letter to the Editor that was edited beyond recognition? Or not printed at all? Let us know what's going on in your cities, help to educate your neighbors. The things taking place now are regional and affect all of us. Exercise your right to be informed!
