The 7th Street Gang rides again.
Betsy Price has been elected Mayor of Fort Worth. When you can no longer afford all the city is committing you to paying for, ask then if the price is right.
Is it true only 3.5% of voters bothered to vote? YOU have no idea what that just cost you.
The other 96.5% of you, not one word about local government from you. You didn't use your voice Saturday, we don't want to hear it any other day.
Good luck Cowtown, you're going to need it!

Connected in Cowtown
WHO is writing letters for Betsy Price? One name that keeps popping up over and over with the Fort Worth School Board.
This letter writer is a very close friend to another Tarrant Regional Water District member. The letter writer also wrote a letter to the drillers recently and recalled it after it was made public (see above link). And was mentioned again today in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. Interesting note. And the circle keeps getting smaller. That's what happens when things start going down the drain.
Vasquez said that when it comes time to appoint trustees to the boards of the city's tax increment financing zones, called TIFs, the nod usually goes to the trustee who lives in the same district as the TIF. But in October 2009, trustees appointed Needham to a TIF board for the Trinity River Vision project, which is in Vasquez's district. At the time, Vasquez expressed disappointment that he was not selected.
"We do things historically when they're convenient," Vasquez said.

What's in the water? Kool-Aid
Interesting letters in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram as of late. The following may be one of our favorites. Seems a lot of folks crossing party lines on the supposedly nonpartisan Fort Worth Mayoral election. That's a good thing.
Don't drink the Kool-Aid, it's too expensive.
I urge all readers to vote for Jim Lane, a proven leader, successful lawyer, small businessman and Vietnam veteran. Jim has an outstanding record of public service to our city and community. Don't drink the Kool-Aid being prepared by Kay Granger, Mike Moncrief et al. and served by Betsy Price. I am a proud Republican and urge you to join me and vote for Democrat Jim Lane for mayor of Fort Worth.

What they said...
The Fort Worth Weekly has a good overview on the Mayor's election. YOU can't afford to miss it. Oh wait, most of you did.
Only one in 10 voters bothered to cast a ballot in last week’s mayoral election, and the large majority of them preferred either Betsy Price or Jim Lane, the two candidates least likely to poke a stick in any of the powerful groups that run this town.
Well, not too concerned. Not worried enough to take an hour out of their Saturday to go vote. For all you in the nine-tenths out there: If things don’t go the way you like locally in the next few years, don’t call us.

We received a comment from Anonymous, calling himself Thomas Payne.
Which Thomas Payne? There's a few...
Seems Mr. Payne missed the point, or the boat. This blog was started two years ago, in part to point out the appalling lack of media coverage on real issues. To give THE PEOPLE a voice, since it has been stripped away by greed and politicians. In the course of those two years, we've learned not only is there a lack of coverage, there is something rotten in the "news" rooms in Tarrant County (Like the very post Payne was commenting on...ironic). We have some more great examples on the way. YOU won't want to miss it. While we don't have to, we can assure you, Mr. Payne, the site was not started to "googlewash" a Fort Worth mayor candidate. Though we did appreciate the laugh, thank you.
Unlike our mainstream media, our goal has always been to look out for the citizens. Their future and the future of their children. We aren't paid to lie. Call your local media about that one.
We'll endorse WHO we want, when we want, how we want. Got that?

WHERE was Betsy Price?
While confirmed to appear at the Mayoral Candidate forum last night for NCTCA, she was a no show.
Want to know WHY? Read Landslide Clyde.
Guess this answers the question WHO will make up the $100,000 pay cut Betsy Price would take if she became mayor. Think the drillers and the congresswoman will split the difference? We're betting you can take that to the bank.
We also saw the Chesapeake PAC letter supporting incumbents, that won't "tremendously disrupt their operations by adding unnecessary stipulations to permits and ordinances". That wasn't near as funny as them paying millions for advertising and then using tag lines from local activist groups. Keep it up, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. And we all know how sincere the BS is.
Don't buy it. Don't be sheep. You know where they are led.

Pay attention
YOU can't afford not to.
Voters need to pay attention to their local elections. Everything decided at the local level impacts YOU.
WHY would anyone run for office? It takes up all of your free time, family time, costs money, causes people to do and say stupid things, there is little to no pay... So it comes down to one of two reasons - they have higher political ambitions (we know how dangerous that is...) or they are trying to protect their PEOPLE and their town. Take a look at your candidates. The ones with all the money and flashy signs and fliers may not be all they are cracked up to be.
Read Mike Norman in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
I count 202 names on ballots for 41 municipal and school board elections to be supervised by the Tarrant County Elections Division next month.
Bless them all for having the courage and dedication to run.
We've been asked about our other picks for council races since our contributors are from all over the metroplex. So the following are the ones we know our people are voting for in local elections. If yours isn't listed here, we don't know them or we are undecided in that race. Don't forget - VOTE Monday. If not for YOU, for YOUR kids!
Here's what we have for you so far:
Fort Worth Mayor - Cathy Hirt
Fort Worth District 2 - Paul Rudisill
Fort Worth District 4 - Lupe Ariolla
Fort Worth District 6 - Tolli Thomas
Haltom City Mayor - Bob Watkins
Watauga City Council - Gary Johnson
Watauga City Council - James Wright
Watauga City Council - Russell Clements
Arlington City Council - Zack Maxwell
North Richland Hills City Council - Tim Welch
Richland Hills - Martha Strain

Who Should the New Mayor of Fort Worth be?
This week's FW Weekly gives us a very good overview of the current state of the various candidate's campaigns to become the next mayor of Fort Worth in an article titled "Leading Molly: For the first time in years, the Fort Worth Mayor's Race is wide open."
